Swim
Comments: despite the chop, I had a decent swim, even though I wasn't very fast What would you do differently?: swim faster? Transition 1
Comments: T1 involved a run up a hill to transition, and I took it easy to save myself for the bike. It also involved putting my swim stuff into swim bag, because this is a 2 transition format race. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: I did not know what to expect because I didn't have a chance to preview the course. I knew there would be a bottleneck on a bridge crossing, with rough road. Most of the road was rough shoulder and got a little dicey with traffic just before coming back downtown. What would you do differently?: leave Austin earlier so I can preview the entire race course! Transition 2
Comments: Again not having previewed the course, it was a little weird to come into a different transition than I left. There was also a lot of people around, so I went cautiously. What would you do differently?: Probably nothing. I'm naturally cautious and would rather take a few more seconds to be safe and not hit anyone. Run
Comments: I hadn't been running much at all due to the inactivity on vacation and I knew my knees would kill me. Leading up to the race, I couldn't get a 3 mile run (on its own) under 40 minutes, so I was prepared to be happy with anything close to 40 min for the run segment. I managed to stay ahead of Sandy, but only because I got ahead of her on the bike. What would you do differently?: Not go to Colorado during a flood so I can't continue training in the weeks before the race. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of training and too much weight. Event comments: This race was on my birthday. I had been a little disappointed I couldn't do the Olympic distance on my birthday, but the unknown of "no training on vacation" made me glad I only did the Sprint. Last updated: 2013-11-04 12:00 AM
