Run
Comments: Followed my pacing plan pretty closely, maybe a bit faster at the beginning, and slower at the end. Hung on to the 3:05 pace group until about mile 15-17, then fell off a bit when I started tightening up a bit. Then I sort of lost focus during mile 18. I was keeping up the same level of exertion as before, but just running slower, so I lost about 30 seconds there. Once I noticed my pace had dropped off, I picked it back up until mile 22. I had a small hamstring cramp. I felt it coming on and was hoping it would work itself out, but it didn't. I had to slow down more to keep it at bay. Once I got to mile 24/25, I knew I was close enough to bring it home. I brought the pace up a bit, and finished pretty strong. I was a little overheated near the end as the temperature got up into the low 60s, but I can't complain about the weather. It was cool enough for most of the run, and there was pretty much no wind. 1 7:05.1 1.00 7:05 2 6:50.1 1.00 6:50 3 6:48.3 1.00 6:48 4 7:02.6 1.00 7:03 5 6:58.4 1.00 6:58 6 6:50.9 1.00 6:51 7 6:58.0 1.00 6:58 8 7:03.3 1.00 7:03 9 6:55.7 1.00 6:56 10 7:12.4 1.00 7:12 11 7:06.2 1.00 7:06 12 6:59.6 1.00 7:00 13 7:07.3 1.00 7:07 14 7:02.5 1.00 7:02 15 7:00.5 1.00 7:01 16 7:04.2 1.00 7:04 17 7:05.4 1.00 7:05 18 7:36.7 1.00 7:37 19 7:17.9 1.00 7:18 20 7:17.1 1.00 7:17 21 7:14.5 1.00 7:14 22 7:28.8 1.00 7:29 23 7:29.2 1.00 7:29 24 7:30.4 1.00 7:30 25 7:24.9 1.00 7:25 26 7:22.6 1.00 7:23 27 1:50.1 0.28 6:33 What would you do differently?: For the race, nothing really. I followed my plan, drank and ate what I could keep down. Post race
Warm down: Hobbled through the chute, then to my car. What limited your ability to perform faster: Tightness starting at about mile 17, hamstring at about mile 22. Some more tempo work and perhaps a bit more volume should help with the tightness, and maybe some weight training for the hamstrings. Event comments: Well supported, a bit desolate for parts of the second half of the course, but overall a good race. Last updated: 2013-11-18 12:00 AM

Up at 2:50 am. Had 2 Nutragrain bars, drove to Philly. Got there at about 4:15. Ate rice porridge with meat and egg (my staple pre race meal), and drank some water to top off my hydration. Relaxed in my car for about an hour before making my way over to the race.
Shivering, waiting on lines at porta-potties. Loosened up a bit in corral, hopping, and stretching.
