Swim
Comments: This was a swim PR for me, so I was happy with it. I'm still trying to break that 30 minute barrier, but hopefully I'll get there soon. I got smashed in the face with an elbow within the first 100 meters and got a bloody nose. It bled for a while but eventually stopped on its own during the swim. I could see the blood on the bottom of my goggles as I swam though. My nose is still sore today as I write this three days later. I never usually go out hard in the swim, and in this race I did to try to fight for position and find some faster feet. This is the price I paid I guess. What would you do differently?: Not much. I was pretty pleased. I think some of my poor navigation came from a couple of the people I picked to draft from. I don't think they swam particularly straight. I could have paid more attention to that. Transition 1
Comments: I got an awesome wetsuit peeler. He ripped it off super quickly. Many thanks go out to him. Bike
Comments: I liked the bike course. It was challenging, technical at parts, and still pretty fast. The rough roads in spots were a little sketchy, especially on one or two fast descents, but as long as you paid attention it was navigable. I got stomach cramps about the 30 mile mark that lasted for 15 minutes or so, but it was nothing too serious. What would you do differently?: Not much. I was pretty pleased with my bike split. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty smooth transition. Nothing to make note of. Run
Comments: I am really disappointed in my run. I came to this race with my main goal being a solid run. I honestly still can't figure out why I ran so poorly. I don't feel like I overdid the bike. My first loop was actually not too bad. When I made the turn for loop two I really started to slow down. I managed to pick it up a bit on the way back, but it wasn't enough to make me happy. I was looking to run 3-4 minutes faster. This is going to be a priority between now and my next race, which isn't too far away. I am in need of a breakthrough run to prove to myself that I can do it. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm still not sure. Event comments: This is a great race. New Hampshire is a beautiful place, the course is fantastic and is a good mix between fun and challenging. There were plenty of aid stations on the bike and the run course and tons of volunteers to help out. It is one I will keep on my list to likely go back to next year. Last updated: 2013-11-19 12:00 AM

Normal breakfast of a bagel with peanut butter and a banana before I headed to transition. Then I had a blueberry muffin about 45 minutes before the race start. Checked my bike over and set up my transition area relatively quickly. Everything went smoothly.
Got in the water and swam for 5-10 minutes before lining up with my swim wave.
