Age Group Rank = 16/24
Pre-race routine:

Going sleep early, waking up at 3:45am, a slice of bread with white cheese and cup of coffee. Arrived at transition at 5:15am. My bike was racked yesterday, so I set up the gear quickly and helped my daughter who races sprint distance for the first time.
Event warmup:

Walking and jogging.
Swim
  • 41m 23s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a challenging swim due to a foggy conditions over the water, poor visibility, and too many participants in the water at the same time. I bumped a few times on others and some of the swimmer bumped on me. In addition my goggles got foggy at the beginning. I drifted a little off course, but made it up later increasing speed in the end of swim. I was pleasantly surprised with my time anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a reliable - really "anti-fog" goggles and test them several times before a race.
Transition 1
  • 04m 28s
Comments:

Really bad transition. I did not unzip wetsuit during run and took off an upper part. In addition, it did not go well removing the bottom part which got stuck on my heels. I also took too much time drying the body, before putting a shirt and shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transition with wet wetsuit.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 21s
  • 36.9 kms
  • 31.03 km/hr
Comments:

Satisfied with the ride. I could be faster, but stayed within planned hart rate limits.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Put the cap and belt with number while running to "run out".
Run
  • 58m 25s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 50s  min/km
Comments:

Due to late start of the race, the running portion was in a higher temperature and humidity as the fog cleared up to sunshine. I drank water at each of two add stations.
What would you do differently?:

I felt good and could run faster, but again I did not want my HR to go above 150.
Post race
Warm down:

Light jog and stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough practice with transitions, especially removing wetsuit after swim. Get anti-fog goggles and practice more open water swimming in different weather conditions.

Event comments:

Very good race to practice at the beginning of a season and very friendly for beginners. Last year I did my first triathlon and first sprint distance there. This year my daughter joined me completing her first sprint. So within two years, three members of my family are in this fantastic sport. This event is in my annual schedule now:)

Course: Two loops of 750m over the triangle marked with orange buoys. Initially there was a larger triangle set up for international distance, but due to a foggy weather the course has been changed after first two waves have started. As a result the race was a little overcrowded with so many competitors on the course at the same time.
