Run
Comments: Legs weren't especially fresh given yesterday's bike ride but they weren't bad. Hamstrings were tight and I could feel them especially on the uphills. My goal was to keep the 1:40 pacer in sight and at one point, I was past him but had to hit the Porta-john just after mile 3. This caused me to have to really dig to catch back up (sub 7:00 pace) and that probably killed my legs for the rest of the race. The uphill around Mile 9 slowed me down more than I though it should have and could not catch back up to the pacer afterwards. Finished about 6 secs behind him. If I knew I was within 10 secs of a 1:39 time, I would've gone a bit quicker sooner. What would you do differently?: Train more. I averaged under 15/miles per week for the 3 months or so leading up to this race, with most of the mileage coming from my Sunday long run. Need to get at least 3-4 running workouts in order to get back to sub 1:37 PR range. Post race
Warm down: Not much - just had some food that was available (bananas, yogurt, etc) and then went to the hotel to finish up my recovery shake. Legs didn't feel too bad. What limited your ability to perform faster: Limited training. This is probably the least training I did for a half-marathon and was just glad to have run a decent time. Perhaps I can PR again in Dallas in December if I can get consistent training in. Event comments: This race has grown quite a bit and it was logistically fairly simple to run. Lots of volunteers and the course was somewhat hilly. I just didn't like some sections that had horrible roads with bumps/potholes that made it very tricky to run fast on. Picked-up packet at Expo then checked in at the Omni so that we wouldn't have to drive around early Sunday morning. It was nice to wake up around 4:50am and relax a bit while eating a bagel and peanut butter + banana. Took the shuttle to the race around 6am.
This was a "C" race for me so I didn't really do a full taper - in fact, I rode 62 miles with the PBA DB1 ride yesterday. Went to bed around 9:45pm so got a little over 7 hrs sleep which is the most sleep I had all week.
I didn't do any warm-up for this event. Jogged in place a little bit then some slight stretching but that was it.
