Run
Comments: Mostly paced it well. Ran with yak trax thinking the road might have some icy / snowy stretches. For the most part, it was bare pavement, but there were a few spots that were mucked up. 5 of the 6 miles were bunched tightly together on pacing - 7:58-8:05 / mile. Mile 5 deviated a bit (8:15) as it had a bit of an uphill section and was into the 5-10 mph wind (which is very uncomfortable in sub zero temperatures). Went hard the final 1/4 mile (6:15 / mi pace per the Garmin) - my standard strong 10K finishing pace. What would you do differently?: In-race? Nothing much. Layering? One less layer up top and I'd have been perfect rather than sweaty/roasting. I definitely need better gloves. Even wearing thin glove liners and winter gloves over the top of those, my hands still got cold. Training: would help if I had done a speed session within the last 3 weeks. Indoor running commencing this month will change that. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank hot chocolate, wiped frost off my mustache and beard. What limited your ability to perform faster: It was ass cold out there, and I probably don't run as efficiently with yak trax on my running shoes. Event comments: I think they had three water stations - that's a lot for a 10K, particularly on a frigid day. I'd expect that in the heat of the summer, not in January. Probably overkill. Race was well organized, plus they even had pace runners which is something I wasn't expecting. Of course, there was a 14 mile race going at the same time as the 10K, so maybe it was tied in with that. Last updated: 2013-12-17 12:00 AM

Drank quite a bit of water at work. Parked about a mile from the start and walked.
Jogged back and forth a bit, hopped around a bit, did some high knees and such. Mostly I was just trying to keep warm.
