Pre-race routine:

Very early set-up. Plenty of time to relax and calm down before the race.
Event warmup:

No warm-up
M5559 1284 Laroy Martin Goochland VA 55 M 35 37:12 1:46 4:29 26 3:18:15 20.0 3:25 76 1:48:59 10:54 5:52:18
Swim
  • 37m 12s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Stung by a few jelly fish but not too bad. I think its better to be clean shaven for the anti-jelly fish lotion to work better since the sting seemed to stay on my neck where my facial hair was longer. Maybe try vasalene.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing but what is noted above.
Transition 1
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

Didn't jump on bike with shoes attached. This distance doesn't warrant doing that to me. Wanted to start easy to get my stomach right after the swim. Testing theory that stomach issues may be related to swimming to hard.
What would you do differently?:

Rode my bike through the grass after mount line.
Bike
  • 3h 18m 15s
  • 64 miles
  • 19.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride. Use legal drafting to pace through the first 2/3 of the course and then it the last third on my own picking up the pace some since my stomach felt good. Best race ride after a swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 03m 25s
Comments:

Didn't jump out leaving shoes on bike to avoid losing shoes. Fully hydrated but didn't need to pee on bike segment but did right after the run started.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 1h 48m 59s
  • 10 miles
  • 10m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Pace was initially 10:30 the slowed to 11 and kicked it back to 10:30 last 5 miles. Definately tired legs for the last couple intentionally to practice running on tired legs.
What would you do differently?:

Used my fuel flask for water. Need to run with a hydration belt when it's hot.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Won my age group by a good margin. First age group win ever in a Tri.

Ability to train harder on the run, but got all I had out of what I brought to the race. Needed to be careful to avoid injury, but not calf issues after the race.

Event comments:

Loved racing at the event so much going on and something for everyone. I will be back.
