Total Time = 1h 44m 52s
Overall Rank = 156/210
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 34/42
Pre-race routine:

Up just before 6am. A peanut butter sandwich and yogurt. Drove with Martha and Simon to the race site.
Event warmup:

Not much of one. Just worked my way over to the starting line.
Swim
  • 18m 57s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

A better swim than Colonial Beach for me. Got crowded a couple of times. I never feel great in the water.
What would you do differently?:

Tinted goggles for sure.
Transition 1
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

Need to practice with the new pedals and shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice.
Bike
  • 55m 41s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 14.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Without question the toughest course I have ever done. The hills were so steep I was afraid to let go on the down hills. 23mm of rubber between me a death seemed inadequate.
What would you do differently?:

Practice hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Was thrown off by Martha beating me there. Focused and got out as quickly as I could.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to practice my dismounts.
Run
  • 26m 38s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

When I tracked down Martha, I decided to run with her the rest of the way. It was the right thing to do.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It was a solid run after that bike course.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung with the family and then waited for Martha to get her award.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough practice on hills.

Event comments:

The people make this a great race. Wonderful volunteers. Beautiful scenery. It is a very tough course, but it was worthwhile with my sister-in-law and her brother and family watching.
