Run
Comments: The plan was to even pace for a 3:45 but then they announced they would have a mat at the 42.2 that was boston certified. I'm 40 in a few weeks so decided to shoot for a BQ then run the last 8km whatever. This worked (mostly, the course was hillier than I thought) and I got the 42.2 at 3:11:36 Then came the suck. Everything was sore, my hips and glutes were screaming, and I had to walk every aid station (again, wasn't rushing but still wanted sub-4 for the total). That 8km was Looonnngggg. I've been more tired (ironmans) but not in more pain while moving. :) Calories were 1 GU before start (100), 1 EFS flask (400) and gatorade at any station that had it (200?) What would you do differently?: Not run 50km again? Post race
Warm down: They made us climb the stairs of the stadium to get to the massage area. Cruel. Quick 15 min massage, then limped to the bathroom to change and then took the train to the car (tiny sports car, manual transmission, ouch!!) Event comments: A few of the water stations were short, and a few others didn't have gatorade but overall I managed. My co-runner bailed at 24km and ended up walking in a 5 hr, and my other buddy who was shooting for sub 4 crashed in a 5:30 and ended up with 2 IVs in the med tent. So I can't complain at all.
