Comments: Good start, spun up the hill on the little chainring at 22-23mph, maybe a little too hard. Settled down at a a hair over 25mph and watched the heart rate. LTHR is around 154, when HR got over 156 I backed off, when it got under 152, I picked it up. Averaged 24.9 at turnaround, lost 0.3mph off of that average in making the turn and re-accelerating. Light breeze was evidently blowing out, was a harder to maintain speed coming back. By the time I got to the hill again, I knew I needed to get back on the 39 to spin up. Barely managed to average 20 going up, crested, shifted to the big ring and hit it hard for the last 3/4 mile, stayed real close to 30 the whole way. Post race
Warm down: Continued pedaling, turned around rode back up the hill. Who's your daddy, hill! Also thanked God that I didn't have to run! Finally got my breath back, went check the results and I was second. Not a bad showing for my second ever time trial. Of course, the guy who won averaged 26.2, which tells me I still have a ways to go! ;) What limited your ability to perform faster: Pain tolerance. Event comments: Low-key event hosted by our best LBS, brings out all the bike racers and stud triathletes. This was the first one I was able to make this year, first one since last July, as a matter of fact. No prizes, no awards, but it makes for a good, fun hard training ride. Changed to cycling clothes at work. Drove the 10 minutes to race site.
Because of the July 700 Club Bike Challenge, I had to make sure I at least got my daily average T.I.T.S. in, so I rode the course as a warm-up, stayed around 20-22 with a couple of spin-up segments. Returned to start, signed up, was last on the list, so I rode around for another 10-15 minutes just to keep the legs moving.
