Age Group Rank = 7/32
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 5:30, drug Kraig out of bed, got dressed and headed out about 6am. Ate a Power Bar with Gatorade on the way. I realized that I bent my rear derailuer the night before and wanted to make sure I had time to have it fixed.
Event warmup:

None really. Stretched my hamstring then walked .5 miles to the swim start.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 400 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

I guess this was my most disapointing part of the race. I should have started closer to the front, but I was about 1'layer' back. Iknew the girl in front of me would kick me when we started and she did. The first 11yds or so was really crazy with arms and legs going everywhere. Plus I could feel my chip coming loose. I grabbed it and helpd onto it until about 200 yds, then shoved it in my shorts..which worked better since it freed up my hand. The 2nd 200 yds was better, but I think I had lost some time. Plus, once the results were posted, there was no swim or T1 time for me. I had my chip in my hand, but I guess it was too far from the mat. I am kinda disapointed, since the swim is my strongest.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the first row ALWAYS, get a new chip before the start if I think my velcro is worn.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Run from swim exit up to T1, was up the beach then straight up a hill...that was no fun. I noticed the times were quite a bit slower than normal T1 times..most likely because of this. Didn't get my T1 time b/c of my failing velco on my chip.
What would you do differently?:

not much..just check chip velcro before the race.
Bike
  • 46m 7s
  • 12 miles
  • 15.61 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike. I was worried since I had some problems with my derailuer being bent that morning, but it was fine after I had it adjusted. I felt like I passed a good amount of people, and I played leapfrog with one girl in my age group most of the bike. She ended up ahead at the end when there was a little bottleneck going into T2.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more, push a little harder...maybe?
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Nothing too special about T2, I was a little slower than my last race...but still felt focused on getting out to the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing much, just keep working on my transition speed.
Run
  • 29m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Even though my run was sllloooowwwwwwww, it was pretty good for me. My last race I walked a little of the run and didn't do that this time. My hamstring felt good and that was a relief. I know I really need to focus on my run this winter and I'm really excited and determined to get faster..I think I need to cut at least 3-4 min off my 5K and I think I can.
What would you do differently?:

Not much except work on running speed to help me in the future.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed water and a t-shirt and got on the list to have my leg stretched out. I really liked the PT/chiro that was there. Too bad he's far from my house. Talked with some NAMC people, got some pizza and waited for the results.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad velcro on my chip hurt my swim and my hammy being a little stiff. Plus it too a little while for my legs to warm up after the swim, but overall everything went well.

Event comments:

Good race especially since it was he first time they held this event. I wasn't worried since GA Multisport seems to do a great job. I would do this race again..even thought the weather was a little cool. Nice t-shirts too!
