Swim
Comments: I knew the two people getting in the water behind me and hoped everyone had not lied about their time. Your seeded by estimated swim time. Surprisingly, it was the best indoor swim yet. I only passed one person and was passed by the guy right behind me. We swim about the same so I drafted off of him for the last 75 yards. Couldn't have gone any better really. Indoor swims can be such chaos. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Was reasonably fast for me, was not winded, and felt great getting out of the pool. Transition 1
Comments: When I got to transition the storm was fully engaged. My helmet and race belt had been blown off my handlebars. The rain was a stinging rain with the wind. My aero helmet has a magnetic eye shield and I couldn't go without it. I spent what seemed like minutes trying to find it. Finally did and then took off. I did not find my race belt until after the race was over. What would you do differently?: Should have put my helmet and race belt in the bag too. Bike
Comments: Conditions were brutal. If I were to have been out on the road training, I would have stopped and had someone come get me. You couldn't corner without worrying about falling. My 404s were catching the wind and blowing me all over the place. I saw several people literally get blown over by the wind. It was much better for those who hit the course later. I was 20+ last year and hit 18 this year. I was surprised to be that fast. Considering the conditions, I was happy with the time and was still in one piece. What would you do differently?: Considering the conditions, not much. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was a mess again. Someone's bike fell off the rack and landed on my stuff. The guy who started behind me on the swim came in right after I got my running gear on. He couldn't do anything so I re-racked the bike that fell down for him. Looked for my race belt for a few seconds and decided to hell with it. Total mess in T2. All of the bikes were barely hanging on and were wavering like flags on the racks. What would you do differently?: Nothing much. As good as I could considering conditions. Run
Comments: The wind was really whipping around. The portions of the course directly into the wind were very difficult. I was hoping to average less than 8 minute miles and ended up at 8:19 pace. I have been training for Ironman Boulder so I haven't spent a lot of time on speed for Sprints. The rain and wind were big factors. What would you do differently?: Haven't really been training for this distance so not much. Post race
Warm down: My Sunday trail running group showed up to watch and cheer me on. It was good to hear them on the run. It helped a lot. Had a few pancakes, called my coach and waited for the parking lot to open again. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weather. Event comments: Nothing DA can do about the weather. I kind of like tough conditions. I guess I'm a mudder. After it was done, it was fun to look back on. Not something you will forget, that's for sure. Last updated: 2014-01-11 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 and took a shower. The race site is only a 10 minute drive from my house. Transition opened at 5:45 and there is parking right next to transition but you have to be there early or face a long walk from the warehouses quite a distance away. I never have a problem getting a spot at 5:30 so I get there by transition open. Had a honey stinger bar and a bottle of Skratch Labs with a Shark Salt.
Weather was not looking good. Sprinkles when I arrived and had trouble figuring out what to do with transition. Made a few trips back and forth to the truck before settling on dumping extra gear in the truck and putting my shoes inside the bag as my transition set up to keep everything dry. Left helmet and race belt on handlebars. Bad idea with more to come.
