Swim
Comments: I thought the swim went very well. I pulled ahead of most of my wave and started passing people from previous waves after a while. It was COLD and I'm glad I decided to wear the wetsuit. It was really hard to sight because the buoys were just 2 liter pop bottles painted orange and lots of racers had orange swim caps, which looked pretty similar. Transition 1
Comments: Not sure on times...no split times due to horrible organization and me being stupid and forgetting to hit my lap button. There was a steep hill to get from the transition area to the road...very tough in my cycling shoes. I also had a hard time getting all the dead cut grass off of my bare feet, so I gave up. Bike
Comments: I felt I did ok. The wind was pretty tough on this course. I was most upset my the lack of volunteers at several intersections. They really needed to have a police officer to direct traffic at the one stoplight on the course, but they only had college students out there that the cars weren't paying attention to. There were several other intersections where we had no one to stop traffic. It was VERY unsafe. I could have done better on the hills. I also dropped one of my two GU's while trying to open it...oops. What would you do differently?: Practice hills some more. There was one near the beginning that took a lot out of me. I need to find some hillier routes near home...might be tough. Transition 2
Comments: not sure on time. I thought it went well, though. Run
Comments: For a cross country type of run, I thought I did ok. Running is definitely not my strong suit but I stuck it out. I managed to actually drink some water at the aid station, which usually makes my stomach upset, but it was ok. What would you do differently?: Train for off-road if I had known that was what it would be. Post race
Warm down: Walked around waiting for my former TNT coach to finish. Cheered for other people who were former TNT members. Event comments: This is by far the worst race I have ever been to. The organization was so bad it was to the point where it was dangerous. Last updated: 2006-07-13 12:00 AM

Got up at about 3:30 and ate some yogurt mixed with go lean crunch and a banana. Drank a cup of coffee and a glass of water. Got dressed and packed up the last few things that weren't in the car overnight. Left for the race at about 4:30. Got to the race site at about 10 minutes before registration opened. Decided to try to park at the race site, not the remote parking because the shuttle wasn't there yet. Got to the race site and got my packet. This is when the incredibly horrible disorganization began. There were no bike numbers or timing chips. That was fine...it was only a $25 race fee. No race socks like they promised on the website...made me a little annoyed.
The transition area was in fairly tall grass that had been cut roughly (ick). Set up my transition and then the hubby and I decided to check out the water temp to decide whether I should use my wetsuit. The walk down to the lake was pretty far, and both of us ended up with soaked shoes and socks. I was wearing my running shoes because I was going to do a warmup run before the race, but luckily I brought some extra socks for the race. The water was pretty chilly and there were NO buoys out. Were we supposed to guess where the course was? The disorganization continues....
Hung out for a while waiting for my mom and former coach to show up. Ran my warmup. Drank my bottle of gatorade about 30 minutes before the race was supposed to start. They started setting up the swim course at this point and some of the race organizers were standing talking to some other racers near me about how they were all hung over. They had camped out the night before at the site and drank all night. They also had a keg in the registration tent. This was getting BAD.
At about 15 minutes before the race was supposed to start they announced they would have the pre-race meeting at 9:15, 15 minutes after the scheduled start. We all walked down to the lake and waited. The race organizers changed the swim waves for the men at the race meeting. They also announced that the run would be all off-road...this pissed me off. I detest cross country running. About 5 of the volunteers piled into an aluminum rowboat that looked like it would sink at any moment and paddled out. This was the only boat out there and there were no lifeguards. Now the disorganization was getting dangerous.
As I was waiting in the water for my wave to start, a man from the previous wave started having trouble. Two other racers stopped to help him and were yelling toward shore for help. None of the volunteers did anything for several minutes. This was getting very bad.
Did a slow warmup run for about 10 min.
