Pre-race routine:

The usual, powerbar three hours before race with a cup of applesauce. Right before the race I had one powergel.
Event warmup:

Warmed up with 20min with 5x(30sec race pace, 1:30 easy). At this point I realized it was going to be tough because ice formed a thin layer over snow. I kept breaking through the ice and my snowshoe would get stuck under a layer of ice causing me to fall. Fell 3 times just warming up and cut up my ankle to the point of bleeding before the race even started.

Comments:

Felt pretty in control the whole way. I was nervous to start out because it had been a while since I snowshoed last and was unsure of my pace, but once I got going I found my groove pretty easily.
What would you do differently?:

Not trip so much and tear up my ankle before the race even started!
Post race
Warm down:

15 minutes easy. I took my snowshoes off as soon as possible because my ankle was killing me and just ran 15 minutes easy on the road.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

One of the few races that I felt like I could have ran faster. I was kinda all by myself the second half of the race and being all alone on a twisty trail can make it hard to give that extra 110%.

Event comments:

Really well organized race, everything was on time, race was well marked and even two water stations in a 10k. The raffle at the end was great, and awards were nice. I can see this race growing in popularity, one of the nicest snowshoe races I have done and a national qualifier to boot.

Snowshoe race...not a regular run.
Course: At the New Land Trust in Saranac. Up and down, with one really steep hill at mile 1 that you had to literally hike up and crawl down. Overall a very fair course minus the terrible icy trail conditions.
