Pre-race routine:

Routine was complicated by a stomach bug that had me visiting the restroom too much. It definitely dehydrated me and limited my running. Felt like I had a brick in my stomach.
Swim
  • 10m 5s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Lost about 30 seconds due to people blocking turn arounds. Some racers definitely overestimated their swimming times, and that wound up just hurting the racers around them.
Overall I was very happy with the swim section. I focused on my breathing and didn't waste too much energy.
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

Made up a lot of time here. 10/27.
Bike
  • 51m 59s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Two tough hills x 2 laps. Made it up the hills (on my cyclocross) then had to pound it to make up time on the flat sections. Traffic wasn't bad, as we had an entire lane blocked off for most of the route. While I was shooting for a sub-50 minute bike, I am happy with the result.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water. Have a second water bottle on the bike.
I was definitely dehydrated starting the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Another good transition.13/27. Definitely made up time lost on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Have an extra water bottle to carry with me on the first part of the run.
Run
  • 27m
  • 3 miles
  • 09m  min/mile
Comments:

Not as well as I had hoped, but the combination of dehydration and the stomach issues evens it out. I had hoped for sub 8:30/mile run, but will settle for a 9/mile
What would you do differently?:

Definitely take advantage of all chances to hydrate before and during the race.
Post race
Warm down:

The stomach bug won out and I did not get to cool-down as I had hoped.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Definitely the combination of stomach bug and dehydration won out. The last mile and a half was the worst, as I felt like I had a brick bouncing in my stomach. Will definitely analyze the dinner from the night before.

Event comments:

Everything was great, except for the post race activities. Only thing I would change is entering the pool. Many people seemed to be in the wrong time zones, and there were many backups in the pool. Other than that it was a great first race!
