Swim
Comments: What up! 3rd in my age group? Was not expecting this at all. I distinctly remember deciding about halfway through the swim that I would let the wetsuit do all the work. I know this was a bad decision looking back on it because my core suffered. Apparently even lazy swimming for me isn't that bad anymore. I also remember that I was EXCELLENT on sighting. SO much better than last time. I kept catching water in my mouth though...gotta work on breathing. What would you do differently?: Try a little harder. Also, even though I was straight, I could still sight better. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time here. I was so exhausted from the swim that I stopped trying to rush. I remember pausing to stand for about 10 seconds and just breathe. What would you do differently?: I need to work on transitions badly. Bike
Comments: Felt good until about mile 35 - then I was ready to get off. I took three breaks to eat some jelly beans. I probably was off the bike for a total of 15 minutes. What would you do differently?: My bike sucks. I just need more time on the bike ... and a better bike. I knew this going in though. I need to practice eating on the bike so I don't have to stop anymore. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good. I stopped for some water. I was less tired here than in T1. What would you do differently?: Still just practice. Run
Comments: Walked every aid station, and walked from mile 5 to 6. I felt really bad there so I grabbed a bunch of food/water from the mile 5 station and walked so it could digest. I didn't hit my stride until about mile 10. Then I finally felt good. I negative split the run. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Maybe work on a better nutrition plan? I think that's what forced me to stop, not a lack of fitness. Post race
Warm down: Walked, tried to drink as much chocolate milk and water that I could. It wasn't for about 2 hours that my stomach allowed me to eat solid food. What limited your ability to perform faster: The last month of training being nonexistent. I also need a better nutrition plan. Event comments: Great race. Set up Events knows what they're doing. Woke up and ate a massive sweet potato at the hotel, along with some egg patties from the breakfast. On the drive over there, I drank a bottle of gatorade.
I didn't really warm up. I jumped in the water beforehand and splashed around, but the water was so cold, I figured it would be pointless to try and warm up -- I'd exhaust myself before I felt comfortable.
