Pre-race routine:

Walked around, stretched, hit the porta-potties....tried to not freeze!
Event warmup:

I got into the starting chute and then found that the 10k people were supposed to start on the opposite side....after all of the 5k people had left. Okaay....so I then went to the opposite side, to the sidelines and waited and watched....and kind of bounced in time to the high school drum line that was playing everyone off.....Awesome---I really enjoy drum lines---especially these kids--they have a great time, they play really well and it shows!

Comments:

I wasn't amazing, but I did do well for me. I ran a lot, and I walked a lot, but I ran far more than I walked---I have to thank my unknowing pacers---two women, one with the race shirt on (NO! no wearing race shirts BEFORE you finish the race!!! Sorry, just my opinion.) and the other in a Nike Women's 1/2 Marathon shirt...they started in front of me, and I would pass them and they would pass me, but I VOWED that I would finish ahead of them. And I did. I was dressed perfectly--I layered, my arm sleeves are AMAZING, and even the nifty new shoes I wore were perfect (I found some clearance shoes--boys size 7Y---which fit me well, and were only $30!!! Score!! I love having small feet!). I did have issues with my breathing, but I am reasonably sure it was the cold air. Also, I noticed that when I was letting my breathing get too wonky, my head would ache...then I would walk, and feel fine. Whatever, I was able to switch gears easily without losing too much time.
What would you do differently?:

I need to run more, and get my endurance up...but for what training I have done, I am not disappointed.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked. grabbed some freebies at the expo, grabbed food and BEER!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me. My lungs.

Event comments:

This is a fun race--I did it in 2012 as my 2nd ever 10k and my 3rd running race ever...boy does time fly! It was very different then and today--then, they gave you water and 1/2 a banana at the end and called it a day. This year, we ran across the football field, we got nachos, hot dogs, and craft beer (it was GREAT beer). There was also a really decent expo, featuring everything from team sport leagues for adults, to Sports Authority stores, to dentistry (good for that as I needed a new toothbrush...). The craft beer was amazing---they had 4 different brews offered from dark to amber to hefeweizen to light--all from a local downtown brewery by the name of Hoppy's---and they also said if we showed up at Hoppy's Restaurant anytime that day, we could show our race bib for a second free beer! Nice! (not that I did--too far to drive) Any way, I did have a good time, and I am definitely enjoying my race season so far.

Performance:
Course: A windy kind of lollipop loop that goes alongside my university (hehe-not now!!! Still can't believe I graduated!), across the river into the neighborhoods--around and through them, back over the river, through the college, ending in the school's football stadium, where we cross the finish on the goal line. Sweet.
