Swim
Comments: Swim was great. I didn't hit that many people and I didn't get hit by that many. I found myself completely alone about M past the first buoy. I got passed by a couple of people at the last buoy and the during the cruise in. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder, but overall happy with the swim. I swam almost the exact pace I was expecting Transition 1
Comments: Just took my time. At least I didn't forget anything this time What would you do differently?: Maybe go a little quicker, but hey! Bike
Comments: Bike was OK. I felt like I was fighting a headwind and going uphill the whole course except Hwy 360. Really tried not to push it to hard I wanted to save some for the run. I felt good, nutrition was (I thought) going great!! What would you do differently?: Not drink as many calories. I took in WAY to much. I think I took in about 2000 during the ride. I paid BIG TIME on the run! Transition 2
Comments: Again, just took my time. Realized my sunblock had failed me, I was already toast. The dude next to me offered some I accepted. I sucked down a hammer gel (mistake) and I was off like a herd of turtles!! Run
Comments: I ran out of T2 and almost made it 1 mile before I had to stop. I was having severe problems. My stomach was in revolt! I couldn't stop burping and I had stomach aches/cramps. I thought maybe I had to many carbs and not enough water. So, I drank water at every aid station, it didn't help. I progressed the entire way with a run for two or three minutes and walk 5 or 10. It wasn't pretty. But, I didn't quit!! What would you do differently?: Adjust my caloric intake on the bike to a normal level so I don't have such a heavy stomach coming into the run Post race
Warm down: None What limited your ability to perform faster: GI problems due to a poor nutrition plan during the bike. Event comments: In hindsight, Wow I completed a HIM. The swim and bike went well. My nutrition plan let me down and my run turned into a walk. The good news is that I wasn't sore the next day, or even the next. I guess trial and error are how you figure out nutrition. I am glad I made this mistake here and not in Nov at IMFL. Initially I was bummed, but I am over it. I had fun, I learned a ton (my 3rd Tri) Had a great run today and have a long ride planned tomorrow. IMFL look out!! Last updated: 2006-07-15 12:00 AM
