Swim
Comments: Heart was pounding (maybe from fear) the whole swim. But for a very short free-style stint at the beginning, breast stroked the whole thing. Made it through on sheer guts and the desire not to drown. What would you do differently?: Do the duathlon instead. I suck at OW swimming. It was slower than last years swim here and I didn't think that would be possible. It felt like less people passed me this year, so that was the one bright spot. Transition 1
Comments: I was bagged getting out of the water. Took my time in transition, hydrated and went out after I got a bit of composure. What would you do differently?: Nothing! I didn't care about the transition times today, only getting through the events not feeling sick from the heat. Bike
Comments: My legs felt dead on the rolling hills the first half and it took a while for my breathing to settle down. Took my time, gave myself breaks for fluid and did not over-exert myself in the heat. Might have caught up to one or two from my age group, but not many. What would you do differently?: Have the garmin already set to go before the bike transition. Wasted a lot of time once on the bike to get the stupid thing set to go. In the end I just shut it off. Transition 2
Comments: Took my time in this transition as well, but did not need as much as the first one. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Took my time to hydrate more and feel ready to start running in the heat. Run
Comments: I was moving slow for me, mostly because I wanted to enjoy the run this year and not feel wrecked afterward from the heat. I enjoyed the experience more this way, stopped to get sprayed down several times by the neighbors, and even managed a little kick to the finish. I was happy with it and felt no need to try and go all out at any point in this race Post race
Warm down: Got sprayed down, and went for a dip in the lake afterward which was really nice. What limited your ability to perform faster: Extreme heat and humidity, serious lack of OW swimming ability, and having no good reason to push myself to the max. Event comments: Great little race, though not so wee with 600 overall competitors this year.Excellent race venue! Last updated: 2006-07-15 12:00 AM

Bathroom as usual, little food and drink and standing around dreading the swim and wondering if it was too late to switch to the duathlon.
No warm up really. Was sweating profusely just setting up in transition.
