Swim
Comments: I love to swim in 50 meter pools. But I belive I was enjoying myself a little too much. I took it pretty easy on the swim to save energy for the rest of the race. I felt really relaxed. What would you do differently?: Stay focused and swim a faster pace. After all, this is a race, not a leisure swim. Transition 1
Comments: Had a pretty good T-1. Except that I almost went to the wrong rack. I counted 12 racks from the swim venue, but I saw a bright yellow bike racked exactly the same way as my bright yellow bike on the same side of the 10th rack. Thank goodness for bike numbers or else I probably would have taken off on someone else's ride. What would you do differently?: Trust my ability to count. Bike
Comments: This bike course was steeper than I remembered. I suffered during the first half with all the climbs. I rode faster this year than last year so maybe that is why the course seemed harder. I tried to keep from going anaerobic, but man, those hills just wouldn't let me do it. I guess this made up for my easy swim. What would you do differently?: Train more in the hills. Transition 2
Comments: I entered transition with a fellow from my rack. We had cat & moused each other the entire course. He howled in pain when he went to put on one of his running shoes. I asked him if he twisted his ankle or was cramping? He said it was just a cramp so then I went on to suffer more on the run. I knew he could walk it out and there wasn't anything I could do for a cramp. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I wanted to make sure that guy didn't need help. Run
Comments: I tried to pep talk to myself during the run, but my legs would not listen. I even gelled 30 minutes into my bike just to make sure I had enough fuel and wouldn't run out of steam. I want so badly to break 23 minutes on a 5K and can't seem to do it. My left knee is killing me right now. Running is sooooo painful. What would you do differently?: I need to run with other people and do more track work to improve my spped. Losing 10 pounds probably wouldn't hurt, either. Post race
Warm down: Plunked down in a folding chair under a big tent and sipped ice cold water. What limited your ability to perform faster: ITB problems on the run and lack of focus on the swim. I feel like I gave it everything I had on the bike. Event comments: I went in to this race hoping for a 1:15 and ended up with 1:16:36. So I just missed my goal. That's just more incentive for next year. That's what I love about racing. There's always new goals and milestones to reach. Last updated: 2006-07-15 12:00 AM
