Overall Rank = 361/490
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 41/49
Pre-race routine:

Checked in the night before so I could get some extra sleep the morning of. First time I've done that, I liked not having to wait in line the day of the race, gave me time to focus
Event warmup:

I should have warmed up more, just swam a bit before we kicked it off.
Swim
  • 20m 20s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was mentally beaten durring the swim. Since I didn't train much I let my mind get the best of me and even thought about quiting only after 150 yards or so.

2:42 pace
What would you do differently?:

I need to work harder on controlling my breathing. With this mass start I paniced and started breathing every 2 strokes when I should have been breathing every 5. Used a lot of energy and slowed me down.
Transition 1
  • 05m 56s
Comments:

I took the transition pretty slow. Since this was the first race of the year, just wanted to warm into it.
What would you do differently?:

I need some transition sandals or shoes so I don't have to put on my shoes by the waters edge.
Bike
  • 52m 55s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 14.09 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was horrible! My chain came off my bike twice, I lost my water bottle over a hill, and my tire deflated on the way back to the transition area. Plus I am not a very strong biker and I was having problems knowing when to shift (probably why my chain kept on falling). My worst performance of the event.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike, possibly get a better bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

It looks like T2 wasn't timed in this event, so it added to my run making that look longer.
Run
  • 33m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was very steady, I got into a good rhythm quickly. I'm not proud of a 11 minute mile, but it was good enough for me. I walked through one of the transitions.
What would you do differently?:

Run the whole course. Increase my pace just slightly, try for a 10 minute mile.
Post race
Warm down:

I just walked it off, ate a bit of food, and biked back to the car nice and easy

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was all mental! I psyced myself out at the beginning of the swim and then when I hit the bike I just couldn't get up to speed! Over 100 people passed my on the bike leg of the race. I need to work on bettering that skill
