Pre-race routine:

woke up around 5:15 and had some coffee. with a late starting race (9am), there was absolutely no hurry this morning.had some oatmeal and a protein shake, loaded the car, and left about 6:45.
Event warmup:

i did a little foam rolling on my legs before leaving the house. not much warm-up for this race. met Brian (BHannahs) in the parking lot. haven't raced with him since 2010. cool to see him again and catch up. didn't even notice my niece was working at packet picket, so cool to see her also. Saw my other niece in transition = she was racing. racked my bike and just got ready to go
Swim
  • 05m 18s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

weird swim, but chaos is okay. definitely was slowed at the walls by other swimmers, but I felt good. no shoulder issues and breathing was better
What would you do differently?:

swim more?
Transition 1

assume than T1 and T2 times are in the bike leg
Bike
  • 52m 57s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 18.70 mile/hr
Comments:

I forgot to start my watch when I got on the bike. I swam without my Trip top, so I was trying to get it all the way on while getting up to speed. probably slowed me a little. only missed about 1.25 miles on the watch.
During lap #2, I was looking down at my cranks (and not where I was going), SLAM! I hit a pylon dead on. Wobbled, but recovered. Don't know how I didn't crash or break something on the bike.
Climbing a hill, I also dropped my chain off AGAIN. I need to have this looked at. it's happening too often.
Held off Brian until late in Lap #3, but then used him for pacing and finished on his rear wheel at the dismount line.
What would you do differently?:

get my bike looked at and watch where I'm going
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 23m 36s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 43s  min/km
Comments:

very much a set of rolling hills. glad I took a water bottle with me for the run. lots of rolling hills
What would you do differently?:

maybe run some hills....I'm used to flat ground
Post race
Warm down:

saw my family (wife + 3 kids, dad, sister and her family) and celebrated another finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

crowded swim, bike issues.

Event comments:

for a small community event, there are lots of fast triathletes here. great turnout by the west side tri club and First Wave.
