Swim
Comments: I said I swam a 6:25 and I swam a 6:17. However, I passed the guy in front of me and caught up to a group that would not let me pass them. I should have put 6 flat as a time and this would not have happened. I tried to go around them but they were swerving, I hit their feet but they did not stop. I finally managed to beat one of the guys to the end of the pool, tried to duck under before he did, but he ducked fast and kicked off the wall in front of me. What a jerk!! Luckily this only lasted for 2 laps so it only cost me about 20 seconds, but I think the race officials need to start penalizing for blocking on the swim in addition to the bike during pool swims. What would you do differently?: Faster time entry Transition 1
Comments: Pretty good transition. My fastest T1 to date, but I think I can still take that down below 1 minute. What would you do differently?: Faster! Bike
Comments: Ok, so to bring you up to date, my first race I placed 102/104 on the bike and averaged just below 15 miles an hour, this race I placed 69/280 on the bike, WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT. I am astonished. My goal for this race was a 20+ mph average and I went 21.5+, thats insane. I will say it again INSANE. The bike has gone from my weak sport to a strong sport. If I can get my running down I will be a force to be reckoned with muhahaha (more evil laughter)...ok maybe not that much but I can dream. This bike segment was the ride of my life, everything clicked, everything worked, everything was great What would you do differently?: Nothing!! Transition 2
Comments: Seemed faster that 1:15, I am disappointed in this transition, I should be around :45. What would you do differently?: Do this faster Run
Comments: This is a 5k course not a 3 mile course so my time was about average. Slight pain in ankle but surprisingly not too much and did not hamper my speed any. I think I could come back next year and greatly improve in this department if I dedicate myself to running the way I dedicated myself to biking this year Post race
Warm down: Walked around in a daze, very happy and pain free. Talked to parents. Watched the rest of the field finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Ankle injury on the run and lack of running training coming up to the event. Event comments: All in all, even with the bad events and happenings before the race, this turned out to be my best race yet. All my training seems to be paying off in my past two races finally. My biking has become much stronger and even my swim is continuing to improve. As soon as I get my leg all fixed up...oh yeah!! My goal coming into this race was a 1:20, and with the leg injury, I figured 1:20-1:25, but obviously I obliterated even my highest goals!! These things are getting more and more fun with every tri I do! Oh, and gooooood news, I convinced my father to do a tri next year, he is currently in training!!! Last updated: 2006-07-17 12:00 AM

Let me begin several months back. About 3 months ago I began to notice a dull pain on the inside of my leg just above the ankle. Never much pain, but I did notice it. This past week I went home to my parents house who live in Greenville. On Monday I was running and the pain suddenly became sharp and very painful. I went to a sports doctor on Wednesday and he took XRays, made sure there was no hairline fracture, gave me the thumbs up for doing the tri on Sunday, but told me to get an MRI done.
On Thursday I went to get an MRI. I will get the results back this coming Wednesday.
Since I still felt the sharp pain I decided not to run for the entire week leading up to the race, hoping that my leg would heal enough so I could run the entire 5k, since this was my A-race and I want to do as well as possible.
On Saturday I woke up completely stuffed up and unable to breathe through my nose. I didn't care, though, I was still doing the tri on Sunday.
On Sunday I woke up at 4:30, ate some food, and drove over to the race site. I arrived at 5:20 and began setting up. When I finished pumping my tires, I snapped my valve in half trying to take off the pump...was there some force out there trying to make me not even start the race.
I checked the valve, however, and no air seemed to be leaking (perhaps a bit of luck in all of this bad luck). I walked around a bit and checked some stuff out around the race site. My parents arrived at the race site at 6:20 and calmed me down a bit. I then jumped in the water and did the only warm ups I could since I was scared to bike and scared to run. After finishing warming up, just before they began the race, I went out to check the tire pressure and its still felt like it had the exact same amount of pressure in it!! OH YES!!! All is set finally to start the race.
