Swim
Comments: sat around shivering way too long before the start. Forgot goggles on head when I dove in (n00b!!) so I had to readjust. The water was pleasantly warm when I finally got in. My sighting and tracking were surprisingly good. If not for such a bad start, and a couple of random kicks to the head, I would have finished a good bit sooner. What would you do differently?: Keep focused. Transition 1
Comments: With the rain, my stuff was still packed. I knew T1 would take longer. What would you do differently?: Not much. Better weather means better set up. Bike
Comments: Had a strong headwing on one part of the course, otherwise it was smooth sailing. My inexperience caught me, and I didn't note the tailwind I had at one point. I have no tracking on my bike, so I had to wing it. I passed quite a few people, and the next person in front of me kept me going. I'm not sure how I ended up going as slow as I did, but the numbers don't lie :) What would you do differently?: Train, Train, Train! Transition 2
Comments: *extremely muddy* I ride in my running shoes as I don't have a clipless setup yet. Racking my bike, popping my helmet, grabbing my hat from the bag went quick... Getting my gloves off was a bit of a pain. I took an extra swig of water and downed a GU before I left T2 What would you do differently?: Nothing, really... I was slow because of the mud, and downing a GU only took 2-3 seconds. Run
Comments: This hurt.... a LOT. The calf issues I've been fighting with flat kicked my butt. I ended up limping 2/3 and staggering the other 1/3. What would you do differently?: I would say train... but this is a recurring issue I need to get checked out Post race
Warm down: Made it 10' past the line and my leg gave out... used the fence to hold me up. Drank some water and "walked it off" What limited your ability to perform faster: inexperience, injury Event comments: 1st ever tri! Last updated: 2014-03-05 12:00 AM

Half bagel with PB and a banana. Took my bike and my transition backpack to set up. Since it was raining, I draped my towel over my helmet on my seat, had my shoes under my pack with my glasses and everything else still in the pack. I knew it would cost time, but dry shirt and socks are easier to put on.
A LOT of nervous pacing. The comment was made that I would wear myself out before the start. My reply was that I didn't want to stop moving long enough to think about what I was getting myself into.
