Age Group Rank = 3/16
Pre-race routine:

Wake up early, eat some breakfast, get to the venue earlya nd set up transition area.
Event warmup:

Stretch, 4 mile bike, swim as time permitted.
Swim
  • 03m 5s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

My goal was an 80-85% effort around 3 minutes. Had Two decent lanemates that I only had to pass once so they didn't really get in the way.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, swim went as expected.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Approx. 1:30 from pool exit to T1 exit. No real hurry, didn't want to slip rounding any corners on wet concrete or fall running down the few steps.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Not a very big event so no real hurry in transition.
Bike
  • 26m 45s
  • 9 miles
  • 20.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a nice lead in my wave after the swim, figured someone would catch me from my wave on the bike as that is normally my weak event but no one did. Passed by many of the wave that started 15 minutes ahead of me. Had to leave the coned in area on the road to avoid people, rough pavement.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Once again, no real hurry through transition. Lots of people to avoid standing around. Had to take the time to put socks on since I ripped my feet up pretty well at nationals the weekend before running in new shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.2 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Horrible, more horrible, then not so bad. Started off feeling very sick, but ran through it. Didn't dare try the first water stand. Got to the turn around water stand an decided to try water. Bad idea. Almost instantly everything in my stomach came up. Surprisingly enough, after that I felt good and ran much better. Approx 16 mins to the turn around, 1 min getting sick, 11 minutes running back.
What would you do differently?:

No GU on the bike. Only my 3rd tri, trying to get the nutrition part down, but obviously my stomach doesn't agree with GU as this almost happened the week before at nationals.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, drink water powerade. Talk with people I knew.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Due to sickness, travel and other races, haven't really worked out in a month. The swim and bike were what I expected. Worst run ever. My normal 20 minute 5K run after swimming and biking turned into like 28. Still won my wave though, but even a 23 min 5k would have won the event as the normal sub 50 minute time was not needed this year.

Event comments:

Good for a 'neighborhood community' triathlon. Might try to start people in waves of equal ability and not by order of sign up.
