Swim
Comments: Had biked 64 miles in training the day prior, so my left gluteous muscle felt tight during the swim which had me worried a bit about the rest of the race. The time trial start was nice. Buoys seemed to be a little too far apart for sighting, plus some of the swimmers had yellow caps the same color as the buoys. got water in my goggles immediately, so had to clear that early on. What would you do differently?: make sure goggles were on tighter before entering the water. learn to swim faster :) Transition 1
Comments: a long run uphill to the transition area. I fumbled with my socks too much, but the rest went alright. a slow run to mount line. just didn't feel into "it" yet. What would you do differently?: maybe more of a warm up prior to race, but it was a long drive down Bike
Comments: The aforementioned 64 mile ride the day prior made my riding slower, but this is not my A race for the year, so I was o.k. with that. The left butt muscle felt like it would cramp up any minute. It never did, but I worried about the upcoming run. felt like I took in enough fluids on the bike (one full bottle), but into the run I realized I should probably have taken in more. It started to get warm. My cadence meter on the bike was not working, so had to do that by feel. sweet potatoes were awesome for food intake. I was concerned with my wife as this was her first triathlon at the olympic distance and she was worried about the swim (she started after I did) What would you do differently?: drink more, but not much else unless it had been my A race for the year Transition 2
Comments: I found that my neighbor had racked his bike in my spot, so I took his spot rather than move his bike. What would you do differently?: not much Run
Comments: saw my wife coming back from the bike course at the start of the run, so felt good to see her looking strong. I had one 48 year old female pass me between mile 2 and 3, but I overtook her later between 4 and 5. No one passed me during the run. It was a hot run - drank a little, but used the water more to dump down my back to keep cool. Again, took longer than usual to get up to speed. I still have yet to do a lot of brick training yet. What would you do differently?: try to get up to pace quicker off the bike. take in a bit more fluids Post race
Warm down: drank a bottle of water and gatorade. Had a salad while I waited for my wife to come in. Looked at my results on the computer screen. Rev3 does make for a fun and inviting finish area. When my wife came in we checked her results and found out she came in third for her age group, so she got podium and extra swag...and I was worried about her! What limited your ability to perform faster: the long ride the day prior and no taper whatsoever. Ate too much pasta the night prior, but it was my mothers sauce and it was good!! Event comments: a fun race for a race filled year. Definitely going to cut down on the number of races for next year Last updated: 2014-03-21 12:00 AM
