Swim
Comments: I did this without a wetsuit, and really have a hard time believing this result.....I know we did have a current with us coming in, but I suspect the course *may* have been short. Though the air was cool, the water temp didn't feel unbearable. Not sure exactly what the temp was. What would you do differently?: Wetsuit would be nice next time. Transition 1
Comments: Had a dizzy spell in T1 - had to pause and hang onto the bike rail for a moment or two to gather my bearings. Not sure what happened there - slowed me down getting into bike mode, but no biggie. This was my first race with bike shoes, too, which I took my time getting clipped in as to avoid any T1 mishaps! What would you do differently?: Practice bike shoe transition strategies. Bike
Comments: I wanted to spin an average of 18-19ish, but just couldn't make it happen. The backside of the loop had a headwind that zapped my energy like no other. I felt like the major issue was endurance - something I can certainly work on this winter! Also, being new to clips, my upper hams and butt are sore like no other - just a training issue there. What would you do differently?: Not too much - was happy with the experience. Transition 2
Comments: Nothing exceptional to note - just did what I had to do and got outta there! Couldn't rack my bike because someone had left theirs across several spaces - so I just leaned up against Regina's and pushed on. Also discovered that my feet were still numb from the swim! Run
Comments: Felt like I was out of gas for the run. I spent the first 1.5 miles trying to get my breath... again, I felt it was an endurance issue, and can improve on this with training. On a side note, the left foot was apparently sufficiently recovered from the stress fracture, which made me VERY happy! What would you do differently?: Not much. Need to examine what caused some minor blistering on my toe - perhaps a sock adjustment. Post race
Warm down: Walked around with the kiddos - enjoyed the race amenities trying to cool down - great food and drinks aplenty! It was a pleasure meeting BT'rs Dtraining and hanging out with crabsrule and wyecrabs before and after the race - I felt like Regina and I are beginning to become part of a new family! What limited your ability to perform faster: Training in general. I think it's time to increase my distances in all areas. Also, the leadup to this race was hampered with my foot stress fracture, which really impeded my training at a critical time. Event comments: With the saving grace of the race dicrector's wife (THANK YOU GAIL!!), Regina was able to participate and the kids got to watch mom AND dad race. Any race that who's leadership is willing to go to such a length to support their athletes deserves the highest rank! Last updated: 2006-07-18 12:00 AM

Early to rise, Clif bar and bananas, and water. Was thrilled to see the weather was on the better side than the previous day! After finding someone to watch the kiddos during the race (THE RACE DIRECTOR'S WIFE!!), it was time to concentrate on the task at-hand!
Quick 5 minute jog and stretching.
