![]() Swim
Comments: Decided to start right near the front and push the pace hard. Got off to a good, clean start but things got very messy around the first buoy. Got pushed into the bridge pylon (with oysters) which cut my hand up good. Didn't concern me too much though and kept pushing hard. Decided to let the bunch go and take a more direct route to the last buoy which probably meant I didn't get as much benefit from the current - not sure if it was the right decision. Overall, really happy with the swim though. What would you do differently?: Nothing ![]() Transition 1
Comments: No issues, although transition was a little congested. ![]() Bike
Comments: I knew I hadn't been doing much running recently so as well as going hard in the swim I wanted to really push the pace on the bike. Probably went too hard for the first two laps as the legs were hurting. Still kept trying to push though however, based on the course, I got caught up in a large pack which meant I had to soft pedal a fair bit. Plenty in the group were drafting their arses off and making no attempt to ride legal - very frustrating. I've been riding a lot this year and my bike is steadily improving and this is my best AG rank for the bike leg this season which is encouraging. What would you do differently?: Keep doing what I'm doing. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Good transition ![]() Run
Comments: Plan was just to hang on and see what I had left. This always seems to be a tough run for some reason with plenty of turns, the hill and some soft sand sections making it tough to get into a rhythm. Took the hill easy then tried to keep the cadence high. Finished pretty strongly which was good but still a good 2-3mins slower than I want it to be. What would you do differently?: Get over the injuries and get back into some more consistent run training and bigger mileage. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Water and shower What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of run training Event comments: Always an awesome race, well organised, good value and great atmosphere. Last updated: 2014-03-30 12:00 AM

Rode my bike the 20min from my hotel to the race start. Then just took it easy. It was a late start (09:10am) so I had a good breakfast and a coke plus gel before the start.
Ride to the race start - 20min.
