Pre-race routine:

A big part of every triathlon is being prepared. I got to the race site early and setup my transition area.
Event warmup:

A very short swim.
Swim
  • 39m 56s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was a good swim because I stayed in a nice comfortable pace, but still had a decent time. The swim course was beautiful.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to draft a little better.
Transition 1
  • 03m 49s
Comments:

I took my time. I put on chamois cream and lube under my arms were my tri top can sometimes give me issues. I wore socks and my road shoes also.
Bike
  • 3h 03m 47s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.28 mile/hr
Comments:

The return section of the course was tougher since the climb back and the headwinds. I felt great until around mile 45.
What would you do differently?:

I probably went out a little faster than I should have because of the course. The last 10 miles I was definitely slower. Not knowing the course, anyone would have made the same mistake.
Transition 2
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

Transition was quicker because I already had socks on. I still took a little longer because I didn't want to forget anything, like my race belt.
Run
  • 2h 25m 19s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where my race fell apart. I was nauseous after about 1 mile on the run. It was so bad I have to walk much of the course. Then my new running shoes had problems. The insoles on my left shoe kept sliding forward. After about the 10th time fixing that I just took the insole out completely. I've never had this happen before. Also the heat because unbearable towards the end. Running slower meant I had to be out there longer which was no fun. I've never run that slow at anytime in my entire life.
What would you do differently?:

Infinit does not agree with me in races. Training it's great, but the run is just terrible for me. Time to look into other nutrition.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mainly Infinit didn't agree with me. It totally killed my run.

Event comments:

This is a good race, however I just wish it was a little cooler. The volunteers were great for a smaller race. They gave us a finishers visor instead of a finishers medal. Being my first half, I was looking for that medal. I may do this race again if I can conquer the nutrition and the heat.

My heart rate was a little high at the start. I kept on slowing down to get my heart rate under control.
