Swim
Comments: A 2:19 per min /100 meters (= not so good) Got stuck behind someone who was about my pace. I probably could have passed him but the effort didn't seem worth it with about 300 meters so I drafted. Serpentine swim means after 2 laps you have to duck under the lane line--which I didn't do very gracefully or quickly. I don't know but my swim is really slower than I would have predicted based on usual times. Transition 1
Comments: Lame--no wetsuit even Bike
Comments: I am proud of this one--I worked really hard. Hilly course--good down hill at La Canada but that uphill and the long gradual one on Oracle were challenging. I went really hard on the second loop of the bike and just hoped I wouldn't tank on the run. Transition 2
Comments: better but still not great Run
Comments: That's an 8:40 pace which is pretty damn good for me since I'm usually well over 9 min in tris. No cramping on the run--good given the hard bike. But a little left inside ankle pain but it went away when I stopped. And this in spite of not a whole lot of running because of the injury--the walk/run strategy to come back into training seems to have paid off. Post race
Warm down: I walked around, stretched while waiting for a massage and the awards. Event comments: Great venue at the Aquatic Center--beautiful pool and location. Great bike course and super safe with police at all the dangerous intersections and a full car lane blocked off with cones every 5 feet for the entire course--awesome on the part of the RD and the cops. Run was 2 loops--good for seeing people on the course and spectators. Well run overall especially for the inaugural event. Very good in all the important things. Nice to have massages available. But the post race food was sliced bread and butter and water--that's it! I couldn't choke down the bread which was so dry. No fruit or granola bars which are easy and pretty inexpensive and quick and decent nutrition. And there was nothing else going on at the finish--no announcing names as people finished, no music. But nice age group awards--a pint glass with the event logo. I'd do it again. Last updated: 2014-04-05 12:00 AM

UP AT 5 am, usual breakfast, left so that we got there a little after 6 pm, definitely one of the last people to arrive! But loads of time between the 6:15 meeting and my swim start.
rode my bike from the parking to the site
