Comments:

Had several panic attacks, that really killed the swim for me
I will attribute to:
1-first swim in a wetsuit
2-first open water swim
3-first group swim
4-taking in water (through mouth and nose)
5-taking the start too fast
6-other
What would you do differently?:

Will modify my training to a more vigorous workout, and will get some more open water time prior to the next race.

Comments:

I felt like I took my time, although the initial report had me getting out of transition in 1:30 +/-.
I needed to take more time to hydrate and recover from the swim.
What would you do differently?:

If I have problems in the swim, I will take more time in transition to center myself, hydrate and breath. I'm not trying to win the competition or my age group.

Comments:

The course had a couple of hills, and I think it may have been different than what was presented from the website. The real difficulty was not knowing where I was, and at times if I was even on course. The turns were mostly well marked, but one was questionable. There was virtually no shade, and it was getting very hot during the ride.
What would you do differently?:

I needed to take more liquids, and follow my hydration plan better. I was mentally out of the race after the swim. I need to work on drinking during the bike ride much heavier.

I could have taken more time to hydrate during the transition. Given how hot the race was and my mental condition, I needed to stop and assess my situation better.

Comments:

This was a brutal run, after a brutal swim. I had to walk/run a lot more than I ever have. It was demoralizing and negative.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate more during pre-race, ask more specific questions at the race meeting to get a feel for how the race will actually be run.

Warm down:

By the time I finished, there was no one handing out finishing medals, or meal packets. Truly disorganized.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A general lack of knowing how I would perform in the race, really hurt me. I was not prepared for the emotional response my body would go through.

Event comments:

This was my first race, so it is hard to judge, but it was just not organized.
I overheard a race organizer complaining about permit fees, and during the race I could not help but think about his moaning about $700 in permits and me not having water on the run, and not having aid station distances marked.
I'm not sure I will compete in this triathlon again.
About two-weeks after the race, the director called, apologizing for not having enough water on the race course, that they had water but could not get it to the aid stations.

Course: No shade, rough course. Course was not as described on the website, there was a real scramble up and across a hill, and over a wash or dry river bed. Needed to walk for safety - not cool. Organizers did not have water stations marked, and did not have water at many of the stations. Park rangers were handing out water for the racers.
