Two-hour drive.
Event warmup:

Familiarized myself with the venue and talked with the other participants. Was tempted to do some really weird stretching moves to see if anyone would copy me.

It was hard to tell the orange buoys from the pink heads. I just didn't get my breathing rhythm down. Everyone else was already running up the beach by the time I reached the second turn buoy.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely need more open water practice.

I knew better, but I took my cap and goggles off first, which left my hands full. And then I took my suit off on my way to the transition area, which affected my swim time (but not much). I had to stop to pull my feet out as my heals were stuck in it.
What would you do differently?:

Not pull my suit off until I'm in the transition area. Not take my cap and goggles off until the suit is off so my hands aren't full.

Warm down:

Grabbed some food, sat around and watched the HIM runners as that race was still going. Nice looking bunch of men!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Physical condition. I'm working on it. This was a great first race.

Event comments:

It was a good race, and I want to do it again next year!
