Age Group Rank = 1/8
Pre-race routine:

Light Stretching, with a light breakfast at home and washed down with a gatorade
Event warmup:

Light stretching
Swim
  • 14m 27s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Other than the water being a bit cold the conditions were about as good as you could hope for. Swim went fairly well in retrospect but I felt that was struggling a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Work a bit on swimming straighter. I seem to want to drift left on while on the lake and I do not think that it had anything to do with a current.
Transition 1
  • 03m 36s
Comments:

Wetsuit strippers helped a lot with getting things going. Rolled up socks helped quite a bit with getting them on. I also had some issues with getting my gloves on again.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on keeping my speed up through transition. While I slow down on purpose to catch my breath it definitely costs me some crucial time in the sprint distance. I like ridding with gloves bit I need to figure out a way to get them on faster an preferably while biking.
Bike
  • 36m 11s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Attempted to keep up with who ended up being the fastest woman on the course that day but ended up losing contact with her a few miles from the end when I ran out of a bit of gas.
What would you do differently?:

Pretty happy with the effort. I think most of the folks in front of me were on tri bikes but it was hard to say for sure. Though this course was technical enough where staying in aero would be pretty hard to do.
Transition 2
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

Took about 50 seconds at the rack to get going again. Biggest part of the time in T2 was moving between the timing mats.
What would you do differently?:

I would run in and out of T2. However, I purposely slow down to catch my breath coming in off the bike. However, in the sprint distance that costs me crucial time.
Run
  • 25m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Only averaged about 8:30 ish miles on this course which was aided by the last mile. Tired legs definitely were not a help on this hilly course. As I got tired I tried to focus on good running form and that seemed to make a difference.
What would you do differently?:

Started to pick up the pace at the 2 mile point when the net gradient started to drop off again.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking and light stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transition times and my running seem to be my biggest limiters at this point.

Event comments:

This is a great early season triathlon with lots of first time athletes in the mix. It is a well run race with good atmosphere.
