Total Time = 3h 29m
Overall Rank = 255/261
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 37/37
Pre-race routine:

Ate a bananna, cliff bar, and drank some gatorade. Had a gel and water about five minutes before race.
Event warmup:

Short swim and stretching.
Swim
  • 32m 56s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

I have been swimming very little and trying to put most of my training into biking and running. Not sure if that was a good strategy. I think the swim went fine and I felt ok. Maybe it took more out of me than I think?
What would you do differently?:

Need to overall work on technique to limit effort on the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Transition went as expected. In the grand scheme of things...transition is not a large concern.
What would you do differently?:

Get a tri bag to make getting to transition area easier.
Bike
  • 1h 35m 5s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good on bike, but held myself back too much trying to save something for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to put in more miles and doing some longer rides.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

ditto above
What would you do differently?:

Maybe change socks again because mine were wet and it drove me crazy on the run. Maybe I will slowly start training with no socks.
Run
  • 77m 48s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where the real fun started. Just could never get my run going. I am never a good runner, but this was awful. I had to walk about half. I have really increased my mileage since last year so I thought things would go better.
What would you do differently?:

Need to do more bricks!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Drinking and eating too much. My stomach was sloshy all day. Will not make that mistake again.

Event comments:

This was my third triathlon and worst yet. Something was just not right. Still trying to figure it out. I felt sluggish. I was never really breathing very hard...I just could not go. I need to learn more about pushing myself. I could have pushed a lot harder on the bike especially if I was going to walk half the run anyway. Maybe the swim took more out of me than I think? Maybe it was just a bad day. I did have a terrible long run the week before. I really need more training volume but having three small kids it is hard. I do not want to sacrifice time with them...I would rather finish at the BOP.
