Swim
Comments: This will go down as my fastest swim ever. Thank you, river current! Deep water start allowed me to get acclimated. Water was warm (Not wetsuit legal) and calm. At first I was worried b/c my goggles had some liquid in them and my eyes were burning. I thought I was going to do the whole thing half blind. But then after a minute I was fine. Did a little drafting. Did a little swimming to the right of someone who was trying to swim to the right. Overall, one of my better swims: no panicking, pretty good breathing and sighting, actually thought about form some. What would you do differently?: Get there earlier to get in the water ahead of time. Transition 1
Comments: Transition part was fine. No problems. What would you do differently?: Nada. Bike
Comments: Right out of transition I tapped my bike compu to start it and knocked it off! I guess I hadn't put it on tight! So I stopped and went back to get it. I guess it's better that it happened in the first 5 yds than in the middle somewhere. Anyway. That cost me some time. The ride was beautiful and the weather great. Felt a bit chilly at the beginning. I did notice that I'm not as fast as I was last summer, largely due to weight I've put on. That's a bummer. There was one group of riders, very evenly matched that I was playing hill tag with. They were kindof annoying because they were sortof in a pack and I was worried about drafting penalties. They'd all pass me on an uphill, and then be blocking a lot of the road when we started downhill, where I would pass them back. I did not walk the hill. Really, it's not that bad. Oh, and my feet got really numb, moreso than usual. I'm guessing due to the Speedo suit. What would you do differently?: Make sure bike computer is on tight. Not gain 20 extra lbs. Transition 2
Comments: Fine. Made sure to blow my nose and take my inhaler. What would you do differently?: nada Run
Comments: Felt pretty decent going into the run. Jello legs, sure, but no problem. Some trails were hard-packed and bumpy, which was annoying. My feet were still really numb, and stayed that way most of the run. First mile was a good pace. Second mile had more uphill and I took a little easier. Too easy, apparently! Didn't think I was close to a 13 min mile! Picked it up on the last mile. Fairly pleased. What would you do differently?: Those 20 extra lbs again. Post race
Warm down: My 5 yr old met me at the finish line. I had all my boys cheering me the whole race this time! That was fun! Drank water, got sprayed with water, went for the food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Extra weight, minimal training, knocking off my bike computer. Event comments: A really nice race! Easy open water swim, pretty bike, shaded run. And they have oreos as post-race food. Every race should have oreos! Last updated: 2014-04-30 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:30, ate 2 hard boiled eggs and 2 pieces of toast, drank 1/2 L water. Made tea for the drive. Went and got ready, woke the kids and left a little late, but not rushed.
Parked car and I road down to the transition. Plenty of time to get everything ready.
I didn't really get in a warm-up. Walked 10 min to the start. Realized that the swim I did Friday was shorter than the race, but I didn't know how much shorter. Not enough time to get in the water, which I usually like to do.
