Swim
Comments: The water was too warm for wetsuits and was so choppy that sighting was very difficult. I ended up sighting off the lifeguards on the way back. I was a bit disappointed with my time, but happy to have finished in one piece! What would you do differently?: Be a stronger swimmer! Transition 1
Comments: There was a long run of about 1/3 mile to T1. Across the beach, through a field, up a hill, and through another field! I left shoes near the swim swim exit to wear and was glad I had them. I even took time for sunscreen and chamois butter. Bike
Comments: The back roads were a little rough and my drink kept inching out of the holder. Pushing it back down constantly was annoying. Must remember gumbands next time. The last 20 miles were great and on a smoother road. The roads were open to traffic and there were some strong gusts from big trucks. The second aid station was out of water. Also, the race info said that they would have Heed on course and they had Gatorade. BIG difference! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: This time is estimated as T2 and Run times were combined. Run
Comments: The run was so incredibly hot and hard. It reached 97. Parts of the run were shaded which helped maybe a little. I took water and ice at each aid station. There was a lot of carnage on the run course and I passed a ton of people. I told Tom at the end of the first loop that I thought I might die! Time is estimated after I took off a little for T2. Rank includes T2 time. What would you do differently?: I was hoping for a faster run, but given the temperature, I was happy with this time. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit and got some pizza and other food. Had several drinks and a cold towel. What limited your ability to perform faster: Definitely the heat! Event comments: Overall, the race was run well. Tons of friendly volunteers all over the course. Was a little disappointing to have no water at the second bike aid station, but I was pretty back-of-the-pack at the time. Also, a couple of the aid stations on the second loop of the run were low on water or out of ice, and I was front-of-the-middle-of the-pack by then. Last updated: 2014-04-30 12:00 AM

Ate a bagel 2 1/2 hours before race and a banana 1 1/2 hours before. Drank 1/2 bottle of Heed that wouldn't fit in my aero bottle and had a serving of Shot Bloks 15 minutes before start.
Nothing really. Walked the 1/3 mile to the beach for the start.
