Pre-race routine:

Didn't plan on running due to a triathlon yesterday, so I headed to Louisville to cheer on my husband. Decided a trail run on tired legs would be good half Ironman training, so impulsively signed up at the last minute.
Event warmup:

Not much. Jogged about two minutes and stretched.

Comments:

Managed a pretty even 8:45 pace. My legs were screaming around mile 6, and I thought about dnf'ing and saving them for another day. Started to feel better and decided to just hang in there and make the most of it. Only really felt bad on the uphills, anyway. Still, only about 2 minutes slower than last year's pace on fresh legs.
What would you do differently?:

Had some sharp ITB pain the last mile. Thankfully, it's feeling better now two days later so I hopefully escaped injury. I still don't know if this was a great idea.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Winning a hilly triathlon yesterday, lol.

Event comments:

Did this race last year and would definitely do it again.

Course: Fairly gentle for a trail race. Rolling with a few steep climbs, lots of twists and turns and a few very technical, rocky sections. Not bad.
