Abraham Lincoln Triathlon Series
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 55m 11s
Overall Rank = 60/75
Age Group = 34-39
Age Group Rank = 7/11
Pre-race routine:

Up a bit late. Drove like a bat out of you know what to get to race site. Made it in plenty of time. Ate 2 granola bars and apple on way to race and drank coffee and water.
Event warmup:

Got to race site and got race packet. Set up transition and immediately put wet suit on and got in water. Warm up swim of 100-200 yards. Water felt great.
Swim
  • 32m 59s
  • 1550 meters
  • 02m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt like the swim went well. Early contact. Started in the very back and outside to avoid traffic and contact. Swim this year was 5 mins faster than last year. Think my swim time was more like 30 mins but long run up boat ramp to transition added time.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe start more toward middle of pack instead of the outside.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

Had trouble getting my wetsuit over my heels. Other than that no problems.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 7s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 19.05 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt like the bike went pretty well. Passed quite a few people in transition and early on in the bike. Around mile 20 legs felt like they were cooked pretty good from all the hills. Strong headwind around mile 22 but still was able to ride course 1 min faster than last year. Goal was to avg 20 mph...didnt quite make it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Keep pushing bike as hard as I can.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Had trouble getting running shoes on. Decided to go sockless on the bike to save time. Ended up having to sit on ground to squeeze into shoes. Lost at least a minute here.
What would you do differently?:

Baby powder in shoes? I always think about this but never actually do it.
Run
  • 1h 00m 30s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt decent the first 3-4 miles then totally blew up. Not sure if I cooked my legs on the bike or what. Started out averaging 8:30-9 min miles and felt ok but by mile 5 had to walk quite a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what to say here. Felt like my training and conditioning was good, nutrition was good, hydration was inadequate but this should not have limited my run. Had a very busy week the week before the race at work and think this may have contributed to energy level later in race.
Post race
Warm down:

Ended up run/walking back to transition to get in extra training.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure about this. Have to chalk it upl to a busy week prior to race.

Event comments:

Can't be upset about a PR by 7 mins from last year but definetly felt like I am capable of a better bike and run. Goal was to swim 30 mins, maintain 20 mph avg on bike and 8:30-9 min/miles on run. Swim went great...bike went pretty well...run sucked.
