Pre-race routine:

Woke at 5 am and drove to race venue approx. 30 min. No breakfast, ate last pm with usual pre-race meal (eggs, pancakes, potatoes). GenUcan for pre race fuel and RedBull in bike bottle.
Event warmup:

Put wetsuit on early and stayed inside the hotel lobby until race time to keep warm. Raining and cold. Dynamic arm and leg warm up, light stretching.
Swim
  • 08m 57s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt like I had a good swim. Sighting not a problem and very little traffic. I did swim over one guy by accident because of murky water. Was disappointed in my swim time, but after talking to other athletes and their disappointment of their times, we concluded the course was long.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, felt good throughout.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Transition was a mud pit due to the overnight and morning rain. Stopped in small water puddle outside of transition to wash mud off shoes. Everything was soaked and muddy. Dropped my chain after mounting bike because my hand slipped off the lever, but got it back on track without having to dismount.
What would you do differently?:

Good question.
Bike
  • 35m 19s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 21.75 mile/hr
Comments:

Slick road surface due to rain. Only took one drink from bike bottle because of the cool weather and flat course. Probably should have drank more, but I don't feel like it effected my performance. Nobody passed me on the bike, but I didn't let up because of the time trial start, you never know how you rank until the race is over.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more?
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Carried bike into transition because it was hard to control going through the mud. Need I say more about the mud pit?
Run
  • 20m 21s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt great off the bike. Legs were strong and bouncy. Cadence was carried over from bike. Didn't take any water with me, nor did I take any water from the aid stations.
Post race
Warm down:

Went back to car to find warm and dry clothes. Waited for my wife to finish her race, then went to food tent for some nutrition.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain, mud.

Event comments:

Overall good experience given the gloomy, wet , and muddy conditons. Well worth it.
