Total Time = 3h 37m 53s
Overall Rank = 57/63
Age Group = 50
Age Group Rank = 11/12
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast at camp; set bike and bag at transition; check the run/bike in/out check out the swim.
Event warmup:

Yoga, breathing, stretching listen to my breathing and visualize the race. I like to get to the race exactly at 6:30 and it helps if I camp at the site.
Swim
  • 41m 8s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good siting to the first buoy but after the turn I couldn't see the buoy or a good land mark; there were all trees. I didn't go way off but I kept pulling to the left. On the way back I did really well. Passed three people, yeah they may have slowed down but I know I picked up my speed because I could site better and had drafted in the beginning so I was not as tired. My lower back cramped in the beginning and my right foot but cramps weren't nearly as severe getting out of the water as in previous races.
What would you do differently?:

I need to hit the pool. I swam using my hips more but still would forget and would get sloppy.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 28m 39s
  • 40 kms
  • 27.07 km/hr
Comments:

Almost 17 mph not too bad but I know I can get faster. The hills got to me a little but i work hard going down hill to make up time from the swim. Chasing people down
What would you do differently?:

Practice on more hills. Maybe find someone to teach me how to ride uphill.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 1h 28m 5s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 14m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Tears on the trail noooo but almost! I felt like I was going to pass out a couple of times. Had ice in my bra and ate all my blocks, gu and Quest bar. I had nothing left. My chest ached, I felt short of breath and could not keep running. I had to walk so much.

I was so shaky at one station the guy asked if I was ok. He looked concerned. At the end of the race he was driving by and stop to congratulate me for finishing...made a big deal of it. Guess I looked pretty bad at that aid station.
What would you do differently?:

One week before the race I ran nine miles in the heat with limited water and no fuel. On Wednesday I couldn't run. I mean there was nothing in my body and I was short of breath. I should have tested myself on Friday to see if I could run.
Post race
Warm down:

None really, water, water, and more water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training

Event comments:

The volunteers are amazing.

Oh my name was not called at the finish line and I did not get a finishers medal...maybe they don't have any.
