Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/8
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:45, had two pieces of toast with jam.
Event warmup:

~12 minute jog, then put on wetsuit, and about a 2 minute swim (got to the swim start fairly late).
Swim
  • 06m 47s
  • 375 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

Decent rhythm going out, but extra sighting coming back threw me off. Timing mat is halfway to transition so I don't think swim time is accurate. The choice to wear a wetsuit this year was a good one. It was in the mid-50s last year, and I went without to save time in transition... that didn't help as my chest seized up in the cold. Water was 65 this year, and felt fine with the suit on. Worth the free speed from the neoprene.
What would you do differently?:

A bit more warmup.
Transition 1
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Suit came off easily except for the ankle with the timing chip. Maybe lost 3-4 seconds here.
What would you do differently?:

Pull harder.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 10 kms
  • 0.00 km/hr
Comments:

Erased teammates' swim lead by T2
What would you do differently?:

Hit higher gears on the downhills to push closer to 25+.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Setup Events' timing did not record my bike or T2 split. I am not happy about this. I can do the math to find out what they were combined, but I want to know them separately. I trip the lap button on my GPS watch only to change screens for pacing, not to record accurate data.
What would you do differently?:

I put baby powder in my shoes, which already slide on easily. This was a mistake. It turned to glue and made getting my shoes on very difficult.
Run
  • 10m 24s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 04m 10s  min/km
Comments:

Good and strong. Heard the coach say "nice race!" as I went by. Started out in the 6:40s for the first mile, then down to 6:15 for the .6 remaining.
What would you do differently?:

I know I can run a 4-minute K. I should have run this course in 10-flat. I guess :24 off that isn't too bad, but there's room for improvement even within my current fitness. It would have meant 2 or 3 spots overall.
Post race
Warm down:

Gag. Didn't puke, nothing in stomach.

Event comments:

Fun short course for redline racing. Well supported, other than the timing screwup. 14 of top 20 did not receive bike or T2 splits. Will definitely do next year. Took first in AG by a healthy 1:13 margin, and 14th overall. Can't complain too much.
