Overall Rank = 39/108

Age Group Rank = 7/12
Pre-race routine:

Gambling at Harrah's. Forgot to eat anything, but dinner from the night before had enough calories to last through an international distance.
Event warmup:

Sat around being cold. I took a dip in the cold lake before they pulled an audible and delayed the start by 45 minutes. Sun came out from just as the swim started.
Swim
  • 21m 40s
  • 1050 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt good on the swim. Thought I was going a little faster, but middle of the pack is better than I ever did before. Managed to swim straight for the most part.
Transition 1

Comments:

Terrible T1. The booties screwed me up, but they were nice to have on the cold swim. Also, couldn't decide what to put on (jersey, arm warmers, socks?) ended up with none of the above and that was fine. The weather had gotten nice.
What would you do differently?:

Ehh, first race of the season. I'll work on it.
Bike

Comments:

Good ride for me. Not the ride I'm used to. Flat roads are nice but it was a nonstop pedalfest. I figured a flat course is a good time to use power goals since they are so random on my hills at home. Started out shooting for at least 180w, then move to over 190, then 200. Started having a hard time holding 200 after 20 miles, so still got a lot of work to do. There were a lot of flat tires out there. Not sure if it was the chip seal or spring gravel, but I felt for those that had them.

5 mile laps:
#1 - 185w/18.7mph/149bpm/78rpm
#2 - 183w/20.2mph/144bpm/79rpm
#3 - 194w/19.1mph/146bpm/81rpm
#4 - 195w/19.8mph/147bpm/81rpm
#5 - 191w/20.1mph/147bpm/80rpm
#6 - 197w/20.8mph/151bpm/80rpm

What would you do differently?:

This was probably too much for my bike fitness given how the run went, but that's how it goes.

Uneventful
Run
  • 40m 12s
  • 5.1 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

A pretty sorry run. I didn't have much pep in the step. Maybe the bike, maybe me just not pushing enough.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster. Pay better attention. the course was confusing with the different distances and I often wasn't confident I was going the right way.
Post race
Warm down:

Went back and made another donation to Harrahs. This was a very expensive race. I need to think hard before making a habit of racing in South Jersey....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Been hit or miss with training, but generally happy with result. Need to buckle down now and lose 10lbs before Quassy.

Event comments:

Nice course, but a bit disorganized.

Garmin had 19.7 but the right distance. Problem is the timing mat is right outside of transition, then you have to walk around with your bike pretty far to the mount line.
Wind: Some
Course: Flat weird course with different loops that sometimes overlapped. I was confused. Two u-turns. I HATE u-turns, but its a fine course.
