Swim
Comments: drizzle & fog made the swim a bit challenging, minimal buoy marking, and moored boats to swim around...kayaks & marine patrol very present however. on the return the tide began running out, made last segment feel like "you just can't get there from here" had to aim much higher up the bank & swim faster & stronger to make headway...glad this was not the case for the whole swim..River itself -some floating debris & brackish but nowhere near what I had feared... What would you do differently?: Actually be a competent freestyle swimmer Transition 1
Comments: only 2nd time using a wetsuit- ist time with this one-went better than anticipated..bike stuff was soaked-made sox & shoes take a little longer Racks were sectioned but not individually numbered- wasn't thrilled with my setup area What would you do differently?: remember plastic bag to keep stuff dry for transition.Use bodyglide Bike
Comments: liked this bike course- tho a few more volunteers & markings would have been good What would you do differently?: push a little harder on the hills Transition 2
Comments: no splits recorded so estimate..probably was less than this, What would you do differently?: keep running shoes dry- also forgot to lay out number belt so had to dig it out of t bag..ran 2nd 1/2 faster than first as wanted to- that was good, also forgot gel -had planned to take on end of bike Run
Comments: no mile markers, one water stop at ?about 3/4 mile .. ran just as felt good- gotta love the mid run BT hug.. What would you do differently?: I can do better-thinkng of getting a little more serious about knowing splits & times Post race
Warm down: walked around , water & a bagle.. chatted with few women met on the bike leg, running friend's first tri, and enjoyed C2's company. Event comments: I had a BLAST! Only the second year for this race. They could use a better registration process, more portajohns, closer parking, and age group awards should be more standardized. The course itself is a good one, swim safety was good, few more volunteers & marking on the bike needed..nice out & back run, live band at post race was a treat, good bike shop support on site,,think as this race evolves will just get better & better. I will do this race again. Last updated: 2006-07-23 12:00 AM

Coffee & blueberries & yogurt..,packed car & cooler..sipped on powerade on 1/2 hr drive,parked about 1/2 hr from venue..met up with C2 & did last minute t-bag packing..
bike to venue then lots of standing around in the drizzle & fog, long bathrooom line- no real warm up..tried not to think about actually putting my face in the Merrimac River..lost C2 as he had to wait in long line to register,(I had picked up the night before) was VERY happy to find him a few minutes before the swim
