Swim
Comments: Water was cold -- it really took your breath away when it hit your face. Had trouble sighting buoys from a distance because the fog in my goggles, but did a fairly decent job. Went off course slightly on the bag leg. Water was dark, but felt good overall What would you do differently?: Train more, get different goggles Transition 1
Comments: First race with a wetsuit. Had difficulty getting my suit off -- and lots of trouble getting it over my watch and timing chip. Thankfully the run to transition was so long I had plenty of time to monkey around with my zipper to get it down and my arms out. What would you do differently?: Try something like bodyglide or something to try to get things off easier. Bike
Comments: Same as always -- bike more. This course suited me well because of the hills. Was happy I drove the course the day before to get comfortable with the turns and hills. Next year I might get a tri bike, but until then I will stick with my road bike. In my wave I was not passed by anyone who was riding a road bike. Passed by about 10 people on the bike. Started wearing down around 12 miles and attempted to hang with the guy in front of me. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 2
Comments: I always keep the laces tied on my racing flats. Did not retie them this season. My feet were a little swollen and I really struggled getting them on. Thought I would break my finger. What would you do differently?: Tie shoes before race. Run
Comments: Felt great on the run. Was able to pick up about 5 people on the run that passed me on the bike. Kept pushing the entire way. Could have probably pushed harder and earlier. It took about 2 miles before my feet were thawed out totally and things were all bunched up in my shoes -- wasn't sure if it was the socks or the insoles. All in all a great run. Have been having some shin-splint issues recently and I didn't even feel them. What would you do differently?: Not much, push harder Post race
Warm down: Stretch What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. I haven't been in a pool for about a month and haven't been on a ride/run for about 2 weeks due to work. Excited to get back to training Event comments: Good race. I was glad to start in the elite wave because I was able to bypass much of the congestion that I understand there was further back in the waves. Last updated: 2014-05-16 12:00 AM
