Swim
Comments: Swim was decent. Since I stayed on course this time it was interesting to notice other color swim caps catching up and passing me during the swim. Some people can really go! What would you do differently?: Did pretty well. Swim is not my background so I'm always working to improve it. Transition 1
Comments: Need to buy rubber bands and work on flying starts!!! Also figure out how to put helmet on with one hand so I can run while doing that. Bike
Comments: Did well on the bike except for the left turn I almost missed. (Nearly went into the ravine when my rear brake locked up going downhill into a left turn about mile 18). Felt good and didn't see anyone in my age group pass me and stay ahead. a couple passed early but faded. What would you do differently?: Turn better, on that one turn. Transition 2
Comments: Missed my rack the first time I went by. Fortunately, I only got about 5 yard from it before I realized it. What would you do differently?: Look for my towel. No one else has my towel. Run
Comments: With the heat and the hills I was aiming for 7:30 miles and did well the first couple. At the turn around just after mile 3 I saw I was trailing a guy in my age group by about 100 yards so he became my target. I caught him with about half a mile to go and powered past him to beat him by about 15 seconds. As I went past I heard him say, "Oh crap you're in my age group!" That felt good. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Great run in these conditions on this course. Post race
Warm down: found wife and kids, walked to shade, drank, walked to car to get clothes, talked to guy I beat, waited to see if I placed (since I did that meant a later departure for the beach so the kids were a little peaved!) Let kids play in lake while we waited for awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat and hills. A lot hotter and hillier than the Peachtree City International. Event comments: Good overall race. Everything went very smoothly. My only issue, and it really wasn't my issue, was for the guy I beat to the line. When the first results got posted, I was listed as 2nd in our age group and he was 3rd. Age group results got posted and it stayed the same. So that guy waited for an extra hour and a half for the awards ceremony. When our age group got called, I ended up third and he missed out in fourth. I watched him go up and ask what happened and he was told they had someone listed in the wrong age group and that guy actually won our age group, knocking everyone down one spot. I hope the race director took care of that guy who waited around for the ceremony based on the posted award. I know if that had been me, My wife and kids would have been peeved! Anyway, It was a great race and I had a good time. I'll do more races in the series in the future. Last updated: 2014-05-17 12:00 AM

Got up. finished packing the car, put wife and kids in car since we were going to the beach after. Ate breakfast on the drive over to the race. Parked, got signed in, found transition space, setup, etc.
Swam for about 15 minutes to get a feel for the lake and the right pacing.
