Swim
Comments: Coach Sarah had me adjust my head and a small part of my stroke earlier in the week. During my swim I focused on not crossing over, head and bum staying closer to the top of the water and siting while I breath. These changes made a big difference in my swim. I also started by skilling and then kicking hard to get going, falling back to a more steady pace. This worked as I stayed with the group a little longer. What would you do differently?: Keep learning about correct form. It is such a blessing to have a coach show me all the correct techniques to the swim. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I felt weak on the bike. It almost felt like I was on the wrong bike because it felt heavy. Usually, though not fast, I can really push myself hard on the bike. This time I was pushing but not getting the results I usually can get from grinding it out. What would you do differently?: Pump my tires to 120 The guy helping me suggested less air in the tire because heat makes the tire expand. Also, service and clean my bike the night before, I think the chain needed oiled and cleaned. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I had nothing left for the run. I bonked immediately into the race. I almost quit because I knew, no matter how much I ate I would not recover. I walked the entire 10K. At the finish I tried to run but I could still only muster a jog; every time i pushed off to really run my leg cramped. There was just nothing there to use. I ate so much on the run and I was so drawn down that I could still only walk. What would you do differently?: Eat carbs the night before a race. I skipped breakfast the day before then only ate a sushi roll for dinner. I have been concentrating on increasing my protein but forgot about my carbs this week. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little. Instead of driving home i spent the rest of the day sleeping at my hotel. Hit the jacuzzi for a bit to relax and then ate and went back to sleep. i was really beat. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fuel the night before and training or lack there of Looking to make some strides training with a personal trainer for five weeks. Event comments: They have great volunteers at this race. I didn't have any support at the race this time but the volunteers are great. The after meal is good and they always have plenty for us back to the back of the pack racers. Last updated: 2014-05-17 12:00 AM
