Pre-race routine:

I've been sick as a dog lately so I planned on an early wake-up so that I could take a long and hot steam shower to help loosen up my congestion... I did that and hacked for about an hour. Still, I was grumpy and a winy little pussy in the morning. The Lilia-Monster was not happy with me.

I had an English muffin and a cup of coffee, loaded up the car and we drove up to Boulder.
Event warmup:

Swam for about 5 minutes. This was a good call...
Swim
  • 33m 24s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim felt good. I had some minor navigation problems, but nothing too bad. I never felt tired and if I knew how to swim properly, could have went faster... Probably my best swim so far. One day I may even be a middle of the pack swimmer.
What would you do differently?:

Of course train more... As for the race... I would probably concentrate on my sighting of the bouys so that I stay on course better.
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

I had some trouble getting my feet into my shoes... Oops.
What would you do differently?:

Probably not put my shoes into the pedals prior to the race... I think I lost some time here.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 45s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 20.95 mile/hr
Comments:

I rode pretty well but my thighs felt pretty tight for the first few miles. I am a little dissapointed in my ride... I thought I could finish closer to 1:12... I think I may have relaxed a little too much. My Avg speed was slower than on last year's long course...
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder on the downhills and rollers.
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

I could have been faster... sort of took my time.
What would you do differently?:

Found a sense of urgency.
Run
  • 41m 44s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

The run went ok... it was hot and I should have worn shoes with more cushioning. I had a side stitch almost as soon as I started running. I was hoping for it to go away but it just stayed there. Hurting just enough to keep me from opening up. Not bad, but I can do much better.
What would you do differently?:

Different shoes... remember to grab my gatorade bottle at the transition. I always run better when I carry my Gatorade.
Post race
Warm down:

coughed for about 25 minutes...
Beers... I lost count after the 4th...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No beer on course. My damn resp. infection...

Event comments:

Loved the race... The ice cold wet towel at the end was awesome!
