Pre-race routine:

Up early, breakfast, pack the door and out
Event warmup:

Seriously - 70 degrees for July? After swimming around a bit I was shivering out of the water because it was so cold!
Swim
  • 32m 5s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

Of all my tris, half the time I get in the water and freak out. Today my goal was go get in the water, stay calm, keep away from the fray and just swim. Mission accomplished!! And it was a clockwise course so for a right side only breather it was great. Also it seemed like it was very spread out so there was very little contact (although I heard a different story from the men's wave). I'm very pleased with my swim.

Transition 1
  • 05m 6s
Comments:

T1 inlcudes a .3 mile run up a rocky dirt path - totally unfair LOL Someone gave me the tip to remove the wetsuit at the water's edge and run carrying - great tip! THANKS CHRIS! The run up is so long I made a strava activity of it at packet pickup the day before http://www.strava.com/activities/168078448

  • 18.40 mile/hr
Comments:

This is favorite part! Still trying to find the perfect saddle but once I'm in race mode I kind of forget about my crotch and just go. Overall extremely pleased with my ride. And it didn't hurt to know that I beat DH by 7 minutes on the bike (and he won the male masters division for the duathlon - same bike course) HEH!

Nothing!
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

This transition also had a rocky run up. Ever try to run with Speedplay cleats on? Not fun. Then in transition I took a little time to fill my handheld. It was overcast for the first 4 miles and then the sun came out. I'm glad I took the time to fill it.

Run
  • 1h 04m 33s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

I guess I didn't realize I was tracking to be 2 minutes away from my ultimate "under 3 hours" goal. So next time I won't stop to pee and might push the run a little harder even though it was kinda hilly. I certainly didn't push it - but I did have a good time.
What would you do differently?:

Be more aggressive on the run.
