Swim
Comments: Good swim for me. Not a lot of contact. Sighting was pretty easy with it being overcast at the start and with several buoys to sight off of. What would you do differently?: nothing given my current fitness...need to get faster though. Transition 1
Comments: no problems..middle of the pack for my age group. What would you do differently?: Maybe go sockless but I haven't tried that yet in training. Bike
Comments: About 2/3's into the race I braked going around a corner. The rear brake on my DA4 started rubbing the tire. I thought about stopping but there were people right behind me. Stupid me...should have found a place to stop because it trashed my legs. Stopping would have cost me 20-30 seconds .... could have made that time up with free rolling wheel and fresher legs for the run. What would you do differently?: see above Transition 2
Comments: 7th out of 18 ... not bad. Run
Comments: Legs were trashed to start the run. See brake issue above. The hills beat me to a pulp. I was hurting pretty bad at mile 1. I finally found a stride I could live with at mile 2 and pushed it toward the end. What would you do differently?: The brake rubbing issue with the bike caused problems on the bike and run. Bike fitness/pacing was probably an issue too since I spent most of the early season gearing up for my first marathon. Post race
Warm down: Watermelon, orange slices, water, soda, beer...it was starting to get warm! What limited your ability to perform faster: Early season marathon limited my cycling. Equipment issues caused some problems. I need to find some extra speed on the run. Event comments: They put on a spread post-race spread with plenty to eat and drink. I'll be back.
