Swim
Comments: went out WAY too fast, realized that I was having some difficulty breathing and stopped, promptly got kicked in the jaw and went under drinking in a big gulp of lake, came to surface and tried to breath air, but got another big mouthful of lake-started to panic as more people were swimming over me and I couldn't get out of their way or breathe normally-sculled on my back coughing out the water but hyperventilating for a few minutes until I could restart slowly What would you do differently?: NOT GO FAST at the beginning why can I never remember this?? Transition 1
Comments: walked out of the water and told my wife what happened seemed like almost every bike was gone as I only saw about a dozen bikes left What would you do differently?: nothing I was still trying to slow my HR and breathing down even as I left the water Hit 5K RP heart rate exiting T1 as soon as I changed modes (no recording in the water from the Garmin 910) Bike
Comments: I cranked right from the start, but tried to spin the hills a bit and save some energy on the first loop-took 10 minutes to get my HR under control, then I pushed the second loop and barely negatively split the 2 loops Did not spin or hit the cadence I wanted by the power numbers were just a bit off of goal NP=208, goal was 205ish AP=192, goal was 195ish What would you do differently?: not freak out in the swim Transition 2
Comments: Quick T2-back in control now mistake taking my drink with me... What would you do differently?: take a quick drink and leave bottle in transition Run
Comments: steadily pushed and kept HR at 140-145, which was the goal What would you do differently?: not put myself behind the 8-ball by using a lot of energy in the swim Post race
Warm down: none What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim, as usual Event comments: My race was bad, but I was not the focus tonight. My 19 yo son did his first triathlon and LOVED it. He swam 1:45 pace and was in the first 20 people or so out of the water, taking it easy. He struggled a bit on the bike and more on the run, due to undertranining, but he did great. I was very proud of him. Last updated: 2014-06-17 12:00 AM
